Fauna. Plant Stand. September 17th , 2017.
Most house plants are tropical and many of us keep them outside on plant stands to decorate patios for a beautiful summer garden. However once the weather starts to change, you`ll need to bring them back in. Some tropical plants should be moved indoors as early as when temperatures start reaching 55-60 degrees Fahrenheit. It`s not just tropical plants that require extra attention. Frost can damage tender plants, summer flowering bulbs, early sowings, cuttings and new plants. This includes things like geraniums, cannas, callas, gingers, aroids, ensetes, tulips and lilies. A little research will pay dividends, so get to know your plants and their lower temperature tolerances.
Another place to consider in your search for an indoor plant stand with character is at flea markets. This is what flea markets are all about. Many flea markets tend to have a bunch of mixed items all together but many do not even realize that you can find great stands for cheap at these places. I have actually had people offer to trade me an item for a plant stand and when I had nothing to trade the man just gave me the plant stand that I was interested. It is just a great place to check out and I would check out your local flea market and see what is available in where you are located.
We all know that plants will enhance our living space indoors and out! What better way to bring the great outdoors in! People display plants for many reasons, aesthetic value is one, enhancing the living space is always a great benefit. Keeping in mind the presentation is just as important as the plant, so this is where the plant stand enters. What better way to show off your plants then by placing it on a stand. With the right choice the plant and stand will complement each other and add to the ambiance of the room. Plant stands are crafted from a variety of material like wood, wrought iron, wicker, metal even mirrored glass. The choice of stand is determined by the style of room decor and the type of plant. Let`s take a look at some of the possibilities.
The first place to consider is garage sales. I have come across plant stands by the hundreds when I go out to garage sales and the best part is they are extremely cheap. You can have great finds with home décor items like this at garage sales and they are definitely an original piece of furniture that I would bet is rare if it is a truly good find. The only worry that I have come across is the condition. I would just make sure there is no rust or visible damage. I have come across some plant stands with water damage and rust damage and it would not be worth buying if it is falling apart. Unless the damage adds some sort of character to the stand that is not going to leave rust stains on your carpet, by all means ring it up. Most plant stands at a garage sale should run you around $5-$15 depending on size and material it is made out of.
You can create more impact by grouping plants together at varying heights. There are times when a single plant is such a glorious specimen that it must be shown on its own; pedestal stands are the perfect choice for this situation. But imagine walking into a room or onto your patio and being greeted by a mass of blooms amidst a backdrop of luscious green foliage. Thankfully, you can easily find two-tiered, three-tiered and four-tiered plant stands, not to mention other styles with multiple shelves and ample display space to help you create this amazing display. You can use stands to display many personal treasures. Just because it`s called a plant stand doesn`t mean you can`t show off other valued mementos and personal treasures. In addition to or instead of a plant, think about using the space for favorite photos or collections of shells or figurines or whatever else makes you smile. The possibilities are endless.
