Fayme. Plant Stand. September 29th , 2017.
An outdoor plant stand is typically used to add height to potted plants. Other benefits include a decorative way to group plants together, such as herbs or flowering plants, and outdoor plant stands can also provide more ground space for additional pots of plants or other outdoor items. They can also be used as a place for indoor plants when bringing them inside for the day or season. Prices vary on average from less expensive, about ten to fifty dollars, to more expensive, about one to three hundred dollars. Many different designs can be found on the Internet (at online merchants, auctions, or classifieds), at local garden stores and larger retail stores that offer gardening supplies, or even through the newspaper. Another factor in the price will be in the specific characteristics or features you want or need from the stand.
Initially, the stand should not take focus from the actual plant that it is holding. It is attractive, when you see an elaborate, beautiful stand, to select it on appearance on it`s own. But what happens when you bring it home and place your house plant on it... and all you notice is the stand, not really the plant? The whole idea of having houseplants, after all, is to appreciate the beauty of the plant itself. So while you undoubtedly want an interesting metal plant stand, you also want to ensure that it will highlight your plants, rather than overpower them. Think of your houseplant as a piece of art work, and the metal plant stand as the frame. It must stand out, but do so while remaining quietly in the background, supporting and showcasing the good thing about the plant.
If you are displaying greenery, then a white or metallic color stand will suit it just fine. For flowering plants, you need to make sure that the color of the blooms pop. If that`s the case, you need to choose a metal plant stand in either a neutral color, such as black or white, or a complimentary color. If your flowers are yellow-colored, for example, they will pop against a blue or dark-colored stand.
One place that I have never bought a plant stand from but have seen really nice plant stands at, is at home shows. These places offer really nice quality goods for your home. They offer brand names and original finishes that are hard to finds in other places. Most of the time home shows carry designs that are patented and have numerous options for you to choose from with the best in technology available. Another great thing is that the plant stands are completely new. You can even take them home with you or if they do not have them on hand most of the time they will want to take your order and can ship straight to your door. The only negative is that they tend to be a bit pricey. Most of these booths at the home shows cost a bunch of money to rent and the prices show that. This is just another place to consider if you are looking for places to buy original indoor plant stands.
The level of winter protection required depends on where you live and how exposed your garden is. For example, in a sheltered city garden, you may get away with not protecting tender plants at all. Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to simply move plant pots and plant stands to a sheltered area of your garden. For plants that require warm environments that are potted or small enough to be dug up, simply move them indoors for the winter. Summer flowering bulbs can be dug up and dry stored in a frost free place. For larger plants and trees that are in-ground, you`ll have no option but to nurse them through the freezing conditions, using horticultural fleece and a heavy mulch covering.
